In a significant development, vice-captain Mehidy Hasan Miraz has been likely declared fit and is expected to return to the playing XI for Bangladesh in the second and final Test against Sri Lanka. The second Test match will start on June 25 in Colombo. It is important to mention that team manager Nafees Iqbal has confirmed this news and also stated that the spin-bowling all-rounder has rejoined training after recovering from fever.

“He (Mehidy) is much better and came to the ground today,” Nafees Iqbal told Cricbuzz on Thursday, confirming the player’s improved condition and return to team activities.

Mehidy Hasan Miraz Missed First Test Due To Illness

Mehidy was forced to sit out of the first Test after missing two consecutive training sessions due to illness. Bangladesh opted to bring in top-order batter Anamul Haque Bijoy as his replacement, but the move failed to pay dividends as Anamul was dismissed for a duck in the first innings and had little impact overall.

The return of Mehidy also comes on the back of a strong run of form. He played a crucial role in Bangladesh’s home Test series win over Zimbabwe earlier this year and was subsequently named the ICC Player of the Month for April for his all-round heroics in Sylhet. It is also important to note that he has also been appointed as the ODI captain for the next 12 months.

Spin Consultant Mushtaq Ahmed Temporarily Departs

Meanwhile, the Bangladesh camp will be without the services of spin bowling consultant Mushtaq Ahmed for the second Test. A BCB official confirmed (as per the same report by Cricbuzz ) that Mushtaq left Galle on June 17 and is expected to return for the ODI leg of the tour, which begins in early July.
