Sachin Tendulkar Backs India To Dominate England
Team India will kick off a new era in Test cricket this week as the Shubman Gill-led young side will take on England. The absence of seniors is believed to be a setback, but Sachin Tendulkar has insisted that India will emerge victorious.
Talking to ESPN Cricinfo, Tendulkar predicted India to beat England 3-1 in the 5-game series. "I’ve got India winning 3-1," Tendulkar said.
India last visited England in 2021 for a 5-game series. The series ended in a 2-2 draw after the fifth Test was postponed and rescheduled in 2022. A lot has changed since then.
Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Ravichandran Ashwin have retired from the format. These seniors' absences could hurt the team, as England will step in with an experienced squad, featuring Ben Stokes and Joe Root.
Tendulkar Reacts To Shubman Gill’s Test Captaincy
Meanwhile, Sachin Tendulkar has backed new Test captain Shubman Gill to fare well in his inaugural assignment. He advised Gill to focus only on team discussions and plans made in the dressing room and shut out the outside noise or opinions.
"My advice to him [Gill] would be that he should not worry about what x, y, z is saying. His captaincy, whether Shubman is being aggressive, or defensive, or attacking enough, or not a proactive captain, or active captain - whatever that opinion is, it's only an opinion and it's from outside. I think what he needs to think about is what was discussed in the dressing room. That is what he needs to think about and not about the outside world," Tendulkar added.
Gill, 25, takes over the captaincy from Rohit Sharma and will also bat at No. 4, a position once occupied by Tendulkar and later Virat Kohli. Tendulkar said that the expectations placed on Gill are a sign of trust and belief in his abilities.
