Ahead of the upcoming domestic season 2025-26, Vidarbha is expected to lose two of its most influential players. According to reports, batting mainstays Karun Nair and Jitesh Sharma have decided to part ways with the Ranji Trophy-winning side.
It is important to note that Vidarbha enjoyed a successful 2024–25 campaign across all formats. They emerged as Ranji Trophy champions, and finished as runners-up in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, and making it to the quarterfinals of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT).
Karun Nair Set To Rejoin Karnataka
Karun Nair joined Vidarbha after falling out of favour in Karnataka. The star player revived his domestic career in impressive fashion this year. The 33-year-old had a phenomenal Ranji Trophy season, he made 863 runs in nine matches, making him the fourth-highest run-getter of the season.
His red-ball form earned him a call-up to the Indian Test squad for the upcoming England series. Nair also made significant contribution in the white-ball arena, scoring 779 runs in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, making him the tournament's highest run-scorer.
With his form rising again, according to the reports by Cricbuzz, Nair is reportedly set to return to his home state, Karnataka.
Jitesh Sharma To Join Baroda
Meanwhile, Jitesh Sharma’s is expected to join Baroda. His transfer is likely to be finalized within the next two days, as per a report in Cricbuzz. The 31-year-old wicketkeeper-batter, led Vidarbha in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and played under Karun Nair’s captaincy in the Vijay Hazare.
Jitesh turned heads in the 2025 IPL, playing for RCB. His leadership credentials were also tested when he filled in as RCB captain during Rajat Patidar’s injury absence. With Baroda likely looking for experienced leadership, Jitesh Sharma could be a contender for their captaincy role as well.
It is important to note that, if reports are to be believed, the exit of both Karun and Jitesh will mark a significant shift and setback for Vidarbha for the upcoming domestic season.
