The former title winners of MLC were fighting for the 2025 trophy and New York got the better of it. The first champions, MI New York, who just squeezed into the playoffs, secured their second MLC trophy after the 2023 edition in a bowler-dominated second innings where Washington Freedom couldn't push enough to get down to the chase.

Let's take a look at what happened in the MLC 2025 final at Grand Prairie Cricket Stadium in Dallas.

MINY Clinch Win With Nervy Bowling!

In a pulsating finish to finale, MI New York (MINY) held their nerve to edge past defending champions Washington Freedom by 9 runs. A dramatic final over, delivered under high pressure by young pacer Rushil Ugarkar, proved decisive as MINY sealed a crucial win despite a late onslaught from Glenn Phillips.

Chasing 181 for victory, Freedom needed 12 off the last 6 balls with Glenn Maxwell and Glenn Phillips at the crease. But Ugarkar, showcasing nerves of steel, turned the game on its head.

The Final Over Drama!

With 12 runs needed off the final over, the pressure was sky-high as young Rushil Ugarkar took the ball for MI New York. Glenn Maxwell and Glenn Phillips were at the crease for Washington Freedom, both capable of turning games in a blink. But Ugarkar held his nerves.

Rushil Ugarkar bowled a brilliant final over with 12 needed, giving away just 7 runs. Maxwell’s top edge and Phillips’ single left 10 required off 4 balls. Maxwell then missed one and got out trying to go big, shifting the momentum. New batter Pienaar couldn’t connect on the penultimate ball and hit a boundary off the last.

Notably, Freedom's hopes were kept alive by a brilliant 70 off 41 balls from Rachin Ravindra, who steadied the innings after early blows.

MINY’s All-Round Effort Set Up the Win

Earlier, Quinton de Kock powered MINY with a fluent 76 off 46, including 6 fours and 4 sixes. His opening partnership with Monank Patel (28) laid a strong foundation.

Cameos from Kunwarjeet Singh Ballagan (22* off 13) and Nicholas Pooran (21) helped MI reach a competitive 180/7. For Washington Freedom, Lockie Ferguson starred with the ball, taking 3/21, while Maxwell and Holland chipped in with a wicket each.

Ugarkar and Boult Deliver To Finish Strong

MINY’s bowling attack stepped up under pressure. Trent Boult struck early with two key wickets, including Ravindra's partner Andries Gous and opener Mitchell Owen. But the hero of the night was Rushil Ugarkar, who returned figures of 2/32, claiming the wickets of Ravindra and Maxwell, both game-changing scalps, and successfully defending 12 runs in the final over.
