Former India U-19 World Cup winner and experienced IPL all-rounder Iqbal Abdulla is now playing a key off-field role in cricket. The 35-year-old has joined Delhi Capitals (DC) as a talent scout and is now responsible for spotting young cricketing talent for the franchise.

Abdulla has played for Kolkata Knight Riders, Royal Challengers Bengaluru, and Rajasthan Royals in the IPL between 2008 and 2017. He took 40 wickets in 49 IPL matches and was known for his left-arm spin and fighting spirit.

Iqbal Abdulla Tasked To Unearth Gems For DC

After retiring from international cricket in 2023, Iqbal Abdulla spent his time away from the cricket field just observing the sport as an audience. Though he's still active in the Legends League Cricket and local tournaments in Mumbai.

However, Delhi Capitals have roped him in for a special role as a talent scout. Talking to Mid-day, Abdulla said he was approached by Vijay Bharadwaj and franchise head coach Hemang Badani.

“Just before the last IPL, [DC’s chief talent scout] Vijay Bharadwaj sir asked me [if I would like to join]. [Head coach] Hemang [Badani] bhai and [Director of Cricket] Venugopal Rao were also present. I’m currently playing in the Legends League Cricket and also some other competitive matches in Mumbai. They [DC support staff] must have seen me and felt that I’m young and have also played in the IPL, so I can do well [by being a talent scout] for the franchise.”

In IPL 2025, DC had a strong start in the first half, winning the first four games in a row. However, a steep decline in the second half forced them out of the playoff race.

DC Named In Outrageous Trade Rumour

According to social media rumours, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) are reportedly planning major changes ahead of IPL 2026. After a disappointing 2025 season, the franchise is eyeing a revamp, which could include trading out Rachin Ravindra, who struggled with just 191 runs in 8 matches.

Reports suggest CSK may swap him for Delhi Capitals' Donovan Ferreira. Earlier, trades weren’t the norm in the IPL. However, since MI poached Hardik Pandya from GT, trade rumours continue to swirl.
