Pooran To Lead MI New York In MLC 2025
It's worth mentioning that Nicholas Pooran, who plays for Lucknow Super Giants in the Indian Premier League, has been an integral member of the MI franchise in the MLC. The swashbuckling southpaw was the most successful run-getter for MI New York in the 2023 season of the tournament, amassing 388 runs at a blistering strike rate.
"Our hero, our ledge, our skipper! Nicholas Pooran – the 29-year-old pocket dynamite, aka the MINY superstar – has been named the MI New York captain ahead of the 2025 season of the Cognizant Major League Cricket," the franchise said in its statement.
"This left-handed wicket-keeper batter is one of the world’s most feared batters going around. At the peak of his powers currently, he’s all set to take us to greater glories under his leadership," the official release added.
More importantly, he was MI's game-changer in the all-important final, scripting their emphatic seven-wicket win over Seattle Orcas with a belligerent 55-ball 137*.
Pooran Gears Up For MLC After International Retirement
Recently, West Indies' talismanic batter Nicholas Pooran bid adieu to international cricket. Although he didn't give a specific reason behind his decision, his premature retirement hinted at his priority to explore more opportunities in franchise T20 leagues around the world.
Pooran retired as West Indies' most successful T20I batter, having amassed 2275 runs at an average of 26.14 and a blistering strike rate of 136.39 across 97 innings in the shortest format. Up next, he will represent MI New York in the MLC 2025, starting on June 12.
