In a last-over thriller, RCB beat MI by 12 runs to take home a big win. Batting first, Virat Kohli and Rajat Patidar’s fiery knocks put Bengaluru on top with 221 runs total. In the chase, while top-order flattered, Hardik Pandya and Tilak Varma’s fine hitting kept MI alive. However, RCB bowlers held their nerves and won the game by 12 runs.
Here’s how MI vs RCB panned out in Mumbai:
Virat Kohli Special Show Unleashes In Wankhede
After MI bowled first, Trent Boult got a big breakthrough of Phil Salt on the very second delivery of the match. Bowling at 139 kph, the left-arm pacer went full and straight but got the ball to swing in just enough to beat Salt’s attempted flick. Salt, looking to play across the line, was completely done in by the late movement. The ball snuck past his inside edge and knocked over his stumps.
However, Virat Kohli came with intent and hit his shots freely. He welcomed Jasprit Bumrah with a towering six and accumulated 36 runs in 19 balls in the powerplay. Kohli went on to hit a half-century, scoring 67 off 42 balls before Hardik Pandya dismissed him.
Rajat Patidar’s Captain’s Knock Helps RCB Post Enormous Total
After Virat Kohli’s dismissal, RCB captain Rajat Patidar unleashed his masterclass, hitting a fiery 64 off just 32 balls. He slammed 4 sixes and 5 boundaries to accelerate the scoring rate in death overs.
Jitesh Sharma also switched gears from the other end as both batters unleashed carnage. The wicket-keeper batter hit 4 big sixes to score 40 runs off just 19 balls. With these quick knocks, RCB posted a giant total of 221 runs at the loss of 5 wickets.
For MI, Boult had a night to forget, conceding 57 off his 4 overs spells. MI captain Hardik Pandya also got hit for 45 runs.
Rohit Sharma’s Misery Continues
With a big total to chase, Rohit Sharma let down MI fans with a cheap dismissal. Clocking in at 137 kph, Yash Dayal produced a lethal inswinger that started around the middle and darted in sharply, completely outfoxing Rohit. The Hitman went for a drive, only to be undone by the late movement. The ball sneaked past his inside edge and clattered into the leg stump as Rohit walked back on 17. Ryan Rickelton followed Sharma after being adjudged LBW by Hazlewood.
Mumbai Indians Choke Another Chase As RCB Win A Thriller
While Suryakumar Yadav also failed, Hardik Pandya and Tilak Varma took charge of the chase. The MI captain stepped in with some fire, taking on Hazlewood for 22 runs. He didn’t spare his brother, Krunal, smashing him for 19 runs in the 15th over. Both Hardik (42 off 15) and Tilak (56 off 29) got the required run rate under control and turned the tables around.
However, Bhuvneshwar Kumar got the breakthrough to dismiss Tilak and Josh Hazlewood earned his redemption by sending back Hardik Pandya.
With 19 runs needed off the final over, Rajat Patidar trusted spinner Krunal and he delivered. He picked up three wickets of Naman Dhir, Santner and Deepak Chahar to defend the 19 runs and help RCB win by a fine margin of 12 runs. For MI, it marked their 4th loss of the season.
