Here’s MI vs LSG panned out Lucknow:
Mitchell Marsh’s Carnage Results In Big Powerplay For LSG
LSG batted first and opener Mitchell Marsh caused massive destruction. He took on Ashwani Kumar for 23 runs in the 6th over to bring up a 69-run powerplay for LSG. Marsh did all the damage with 60 off 30 runs which included 9 boundaries and 2 sixes. His carnage ended shortly after the powerplay as Vignesh Puthur sent him back.
Moreover, Hardik Pandya delivered a dream spell for MI, dismissing dangerous Nicholas Pooran and Rishabh Pant on 12 and 2 respectively. His dual blow reduced the scoring rate of LSG for a while.
Hardik Pandya Scripts History With 5-Fer
Meanwhile, Aiden Markram extended the momentum set by Marsh to slam a gritty 53 off 38 balls with 2 fours and 4 sixes. Ayush Badoni supported him with a crucial 30 off just 19 balls. However, MI captain Hardik Pandya didn’t allow the partnership to grow.
He dismissed the set batter Markram by deceiving him with a slower ball. Markram pumped a shot and Raj Bawa sprinted in from long-off kept his eyes on the ball, and timed his dive to perfection to pouch a stunning low catch. Not only that, Pandya also sent back dangerous finisher David Miller on just 27 runs.
He picked up a five-wicket-haul to become the only captain in IPL’s history to do so. However, LSG managed to cross the 200-run mark to score 203/8 at the end of the first inning.
Naman Dhir Slams Promising 48
In Rohit Sharma’s absence, Will Jacks opened with Ryan Rickelton but both openers perished early on 5 and 10 runs respectively. However, young talent Naman Dhir stepped up to the occasion, scoring a brisk 46 off 24 balls. He hit 4 boundaries and 3 sixes to knit a 59-run partnership with Suryakumar Yadav.
Once Dhir departed, Suryakumar Yadav took responsibility for the chase. He hammered 67 runs off just 43 balls but was dismissed by Avesh Khan at the start of the death overs. He attempted an audacious sweep to a wide delivery and Abdul Samad held his nerve with a sharp catch under pressure at deep backward square leg.
LSG Beat Mumbai Indians In Last Over Thriller
Tilak Varma had an off day as he could score only 25 runs off 23 balls and with the required run rate piling, he decided to retire himself and pave the way for Mitchell Santner. Eventually, all responsibilities fell on Hardik Pandya’s shoulders. Shardul Thakur’s 7-run 19th over meant that MI needed 22 off the final over. However, Avesh Khan, despite getting hit for a six on the first ball, held his nerve to defend the total and seal a thrilling 12-run victory for his side.
