In a remarkable achievement, Mitchell Marsh went past Shane Watson on the list of Australian batters with the most sixes in T20 Internationals. The Australian T20I captain attained the landmark during the decider of the ongoing three-match series against South Africa in Cairns.

Marsh Surpasses Watson On List Of Australia's Best Six-Hitters In T20Is

After winning the toss, Mitchell Marsh invited South Africa to bat first in the series decider. Although the Proteas' top-order batters couldn't do much, magnificent knocks from Dewald Brevis and Rassie van der Dussen powered them to a defendable score of 172 runs.

In response, Australia had a flying start to their innings as Mitchell Marsh hammered the South African bowlers all around the park. While his opening partner Travis Head struggled to accelerate, Marsh continued his onslaught on the visitors, eventually bringing up a fiery fifty, his first in this series.

The explosive opener smashed five massive sixes, thereby going past the legendary Shane Watson on the list of Australian batters with the most maximums in T20Is.

Most sixes for Australia in T20Is

  • Glenn Maxwell - 148
  • Aaron Finch - 125
  • David Warner - 122
  • Mitchell Marsh - 88
  • Shane Watson - 83

As mentioned above, Glenn Maxwell convincingly outscores his contemporaries, claiming the first position with 148 T20I sixes. Former captain Aaron Finch is second on the list, with David Warner, Mitch Marsh and Shane Watson following him at third, fourth and fifth spots, respectively.

Marsh also equalled Watson's tally of ten T20I half-centuries for Australia. However, soon after bringing up his half-century, the opening batter was dismissed by Kwena Maphaka. Despite losing Marsh, Green and Tim David in quick succession, Australia are steadily inching towards a well-deserved win. As of writing, the hosts were 163 for seven, with Maxwell still unbeaten on 52* off just 31 balls.
