Travis Head departed for 19 [Source: AFP]
Swashbuckling Australian batter Travis Head had a forgettable outing in the third T20I against South Africa as Aiden Markram dismissed him with one of the worst deliveries of the match. Head struggled to get going on a batting beauty before the South African skipper brought an end to his painful stay.
Travis Head Fails For Third Straight Time
The incident occurred during the eighth over of Australia's innings after South Africa posted a respectable total of 172 runs, riding on a flamboyant fifty from Dewald Brevis and a valuable knock from Rassie van der Dussen.
In response, Australia had a dream start to their innings, as skipper Mitchell Marsh led the way with scintillating stroke-play. While Marsh frustrated South Africa with a flurry of boundaries, Travis Head struggled to get going, especially against Lungi Ngidi.
The southpaw looked scratchy and managed only 19 runs off 17 balls before Markram got his prized scalp. From around the wicket, the off-spinner bowled a wayward delivery which Head ideally should've put away with ease over the on-side field. However, he mistimed the shot, with Lungi Ngidi taking a simple catch inside the thirty-yard circle to send him packing.
Travis Head Records Horrible Numbers In SA T20Is
Thus, Head ended up a disastrous home T20I series, accumulating just 26 runs across three innings at an ordinary average of 8.67 and a horrendous strike rate of 78.79. Interestingly, Markram turned out to be his nemesis on two out of three occasions in this series. Ace South African speedster Kagiso Rabada dismissed him in the inaugural encounter when he was caught by Kwena Maphaka for a sloth-paced seven-ball two.
After losing Head cheaply, Australia were jolted with two massive setbacks, with Corbin Bosch and Maphaka getting rid of Josh Inglis and Mitch Marsh, respectively. As of writing, the hosts were 83 for three, with Cameron Green and Tim David batting on 5* and 0*, respectively.
