Vidarbha captain and forgotten Indian star Karun Nair notched up his fifth century of the 2024-25 Vijay Hazare Trophy season, this time brandishing his bat at Rajasthan Royals bowlers in the second quarter-final match in Vadodara. Nair hauled 122 unbeaten runs from just 82 deliveries with 13 boundaries and five sixes, and steered Vidarbha past Rajasthan’s 291-8 with nine wickets and more than six overs to spare.
Through the course of his latest match-winning masterclass, the 33-year-old also became the leading run-scorer of the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2024-25 season, going past Karnataka’s Mayank Agarwal in the process.
Karun Nair mounts fifth century of Vijay Hazare season
Karun Nair unleashed his fourth successive century, the fifth of the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2024-25 season, and the eighth of his 105-match List A career by minting 122* against Rajasthan in the second quarterfinal match in Vadodara.
Arriving to the crease in the 19th over at 92-1, the Vidarbha skipper shared 200 runs for the second wicket with opener and fellow centurion Dhruv Shorey.
Earlier in the tournament, Karun Nair also cracked match-winning hundreds against Jammu and Kashmir, Chandigarh, Tamil Nadu and Uttar Pradesh. The cricketer has so far racked up 664 runs from just six innings this season at an astronomical average of 664.
Karun Nair also scripted an all-time List A record of scoring most runs between dismissals in the format. The cricketer initiated the sequence with his 112* against Jammu and Kashmir, and was finally dismissed in a game against Uttar Pradesh earlier this month to amass 542 runs in between.
Nontheless, Karun Nair’s Vidarbha troops have stormed into the semifinals of the 2024-25 Vijay Hazare Trophy season after finishing at the top of the Group D points table.
