Joe Root continues to etch his name in history books as he registered yet another special record in his resume on Thursday. Prior to the Test match Vs Zimbabwe, Root needed 28 runs to become the fastest batter to reach 13,000 runs mark in Test cricket and the England great completed the record.
He reached the milestone in just 153 innings, breaking the record held by some of the greats of the game - Jacques Kallis 159), Sachin Tendulkar (163). He reached the landmark by taking a single when he was on 27 on Day 1 of the Test.

However, in terms of innings, Root is the slowest amongst the names mentioned. While Sachin achieved the feat in 266 feat and Kallis in 269, Root reached the landmark in 279 innings. He is the first English player and fifth overall in the world to achieve the 13,000 Test runs milestone. Having made his Test debut in 2012 against India, Root has gone onto break several records and also chases Tendulkar's record of the most runs scored in Test history.
England dominate helpless Zimbabwe
First Test match of the summer saw three English players score centuries. Ben Duckett, Zak Crawley and Ollie Pope all reached their three-figures mark as they dominated the helpless Zimbabwe side who are playing their first-ever Test match in England since 2003. Root, started aggressively but departed for 34 off 44 balls.
