Joe Root is now the second-highest run scorer in Test cricket and has been in great form in the ongoing five-match Test series against India. He has shown great skills across conditions, which has made it possible for him to come close to Sachin Tendulkar's Test tally of 15921 runs, and if he continues to deliver in the same vein, he could beat the Master Blaster.

Joe Root Asserts Home Dominance In Test Cricket

In the first innings of the fifth Test against India at the Oval, Joe Root could not convert his start into a big score, but managed to go past Sachin Tendulkar's run tally in home Tests. The Englishman now has 7220 Test runs in England, while Sachin Tendulkar scored 7216 of his total runs in India.

Thus, Root is now second in the list of batters with the most runs in home Test matches. Ricky Ponting tops the list with 7578 runs in Australia, while Mahela Jayawardene and Jacques Kallis are in the fourth and fifth positions, respectively.

Most Runs Scored At Home In Tests:

  • 7578 - Ricky Ponting in Australia
  • 7220* - Joe Root in England*
  • 7216 - Sachin Tendulkar in India
  • 7167 - Mahela Jayawardene in Sri Lanka
  • 7035 - Jacques Kallis in South Africa

Joe Root going past Sachin Tendulkar speaks a lot about the consistency of the right-handed batter in his home conditions. The pitches in England have favoured batters in the Bazball era, but Root has been playing Test cricket since 2012 and has scored runs in difficult conditions in the majority of his career in the longest format.

Joe Root also completed 2000 runs against India in England, the most for a player in a single country against India. Overall, Root has 13438 runs in Test cricket at an average of 51.09 with 38 hundreds and 66 fifties.
