RCB’s newest signing Jitesh Sharma equalled the record of picking up most catches in a single inning for his franchise. Jitesh picked up four catches in the first game of the IPL 2025 season against defending champions KKR.
The IPL 2025 season kicked off in style on March 22. Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) faced Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at Eden Gardens in Kolkata.
RCB won the toss and Rajat Patidar chose to field first. While Ajinkya Rahane and Quinton de Kock dominated the first 10 overs with a 103-run partnership, RCB bounced back with three quick wickets from Krunal Pandya.
Jitesh Sharma Scripts Rare Wicket-Keeping Record For RCB
Krunal Pandya delivered a sensational spell, picking up 3 wickets in four overs by allowing just 29 runs. Another silent contributor for RCB was Jitesh Sharma. He picked 4 catches in the first inning, equalling the record for most catches picked for RCB in a single inning.
The record was previously set by Anuj Rawat who picked 4 catches against PBKS in IPL 2024 season.
Most Catches in an Innings for a RCB WicketKeeper in IPL:
Wickets Keeper | Catches For RCB In Single Inning |
Jitesh Sharma | 4 |
Anuj Rawan | 4 |
Jitesh also got hurt when a bouncer from Krunal Pandya beat Venkatesh Iyer and hit Sharma’s helmet. However, he was feeling good enough to continue.
That being said, Jitesh Sharma has been an expensive buy for RCB in IPL 2025. During the mega auction, Bengaluru shelled out INR 11 crore to secure the wicket-keeper batter’s services. Hence, the pressure to live up to that expectation will trouble him throughout the year.
RCB Put To Chase 175 Runs
RCB captain Rajat Patidar’s choice to bowl first against KKR didn’t seem a wise decision as Ajinkya Rahane and Quinton de Kock unleashed carnage to build a 103-run partnership.
However, Krunal Pandya dismantled KKR’s middle order by packing up Rahane, Rinku Singh and Venkatesh Iyer. KKR’s scoring rate dropped dramatically as they managed to put just 174 runs on the board despite getting 100 runs in the first 10 overs.
