Punjab Kings captain Shikhar Dhawan is set to make his return to competitive cricket through his team’s opening match of the IPL 2024 season against Delhi Capitals on March 23. The legendary top-order batsman was even spotted enhancing his skill set at Mullanpur a day prior to their much-awaited stalemate.
Dhawan channelizes best-self with tuneful training
One of the modern-day batting greats of the game, Shikhar Dhawan looked in great nick during one of Punjab Kings’ recent training sessions at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh Stadium in Mullanpur.
Despite being away from cricketing action for almost a year, the cricketer unfolded cracking drives and elegant pulls as he aims to rekindle his past self with yet another prolific IPL season with the bat. The Punjab Kings franchise even shared an excerpt from Dhawan’s training session, with a caption symbolizing the melodious sound of his bat. The post reads:
"Uncut and Unmatched!"
Shikhar Dhawan, who joined the Punjab Kings composition in IPL 2022, scored 373 runs from just 11 innings the following season at an imperial average 41.44. In terms of overall record, the dashing opening batsman is only behind RCB legend Virat Kohli among the top run-getters in IPL history.
While Dhawan has not featured in any international match for Team India since December 2022, the 38-year-old will be aiming to make his presence felt for Punjab Kings with yet another prolific IPL season with the bat.
The legendary opener was retained by the Punjab Kings franchise back in November 2023 during the IPL 2024 player’s retention phase, and was tasked to continue as the captain of the team even though they finished at number eight on the IPL 2023 points table last year.
Under Shikhar Dhawan’s leadership, the Punjab Kings will face Delhi Capitals on March 23 in their opening match of the IPL 2024 season.
