Indian cricket sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi is rewriting record books at just 14 years of age. Playing in the ongoing India U19 vs Australia U19 Youth ODI series, Vaibhav has gone past Babar Azam’s tally to become the second-highest run-scorer in Youth ODIs before turning 16.

Suryavanshi has been in phenomenal form, hitting 38 and 70 in the first 2 Youth ODIs, thus guiding India U19 to a series victory. In the dead rubber third ODI, however, the teenager was dismissed on 16 runs.

Despite scoring only 16 runs in the third ODI at Ian Healy Oval, Brisbane, Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s overall record already looks unbelievable. In just 11 innings, the youngster has amassed 556 runs at an average of 50.54 with a blistering strike rate of 151.91.

His tally includes 43 sixes, the most by any player in Youth ODI history, breaking Unmukt Chand’s long-standing record.

What makes his achievement truly historic is that only Pakistan’s Hasan Raza, way back in 1997–98, had more runs at this age. Vaibhav Suryavanshi now sits ahead of big names like Babar Azam (552 runs), Najmul Hossain Shanto (546 runs), and Ahmed Shehzad (510 runs) before turning 16.

Vaibhav is also the youngest ever to score a half-century against Australia in Youth ODIs, beating Raza’s mark by more than a year. At 14 years and 181 days, he already owns the records for the 4 youngest half-centuries in Youth ODIs. Add to that, he is also the youngest to smash a century in this format.

No Indian has dominated this young before. Previously, Sarfaraz Khan (308 runs) held the record for the most Youth ODI runs by an Indian before turning 16, while Piyush Chawla was the only other 14-year-old to feature at this level. Vaibhav has not just surpassed them, he has taken the game to a completely new level.
