India’s 15-member Test squad for the upcoming two-match home series against West Indies was announced on Thursday (September 25, 2025). Shubman Gill will lead the team, with Ravindra Jadeja stepping in as the vice-captain. However, once again, Sarfaraz Khan's absence from the squad drew attention and concern.
It is important to note that this was not the first time selectors have excluded the 27-year-old middle-order batter; he was also overlooked during the Test series against England earlier this year.
Despite having a good time with the bat in the Ranji Trophy and averaging above 70 in First-Class cricket, Sarfaraz has repeatedly faced selection snubs. Many fans have also questioned BCCI's Ajit Agarkar for continuously being unfair and removing players.
Many also believed that after a rigorous transformation and with Rishabh Pant unavailable due to injury, Sarfaraz would finally get a chance.
Agarkar cites injury, but the video tells a different story
At the press conference, Chief Selector Ajit Agarkar explained that Sarfaraz was not considered due to a quadriceps injury and is currently under recovery at the Centre of Excellence (CoE).
However, just 24 hours later, Sarfaraz posted a video on Instagram. In the clip, the cricketer is seen performing high-intensity fitness drills, including sprinting, agility runs, and mobility exercises. The striking point about the video is that he is performing all this with visible ease and energy.
From fat to fit: Sarfaraz's 45-Day transformation
Recently, Sarfaraz Khan was also in the limelight as he underwent a stunning 17 kg weight loss in just 45 days during June and July. He was also the talk of the town due to a lack of fitness and was often snubbed for international standards. However, the ace batter transformed himself through rigorous diet and training, and in recent shirtless pictures, he was seen to be fit and toned.
