The ongoing Asia Cup 2025 has been nothing short of a thriller as each match has delivered more thrills than the previous one. Yet, amid the roar of the crowd, young Sri Lankan star Dunith Wellalage faced heartbreak, losing his father during the game against Afghanistan.

Even after the tragedy, he didn’t stay away from the game. But after India defeated Sri Lanka in a thrilling Super Four clash, Suryakumar Yadav’s heartfelt moment with the Sri Lankan youngster won hearts.

SKY’s warm gesture captures hearts

As Sri Lanka showcased domination on the group stage, and qualified for the Super Four stage with an unbeaten streak. But in their last group stage clash against Afghanistan, Dunith Wellalage lost his father. Showing remarkable strength, he returned home briefly yet rejoined the squad before the Bangladesh game. His spirit won hearts after that.

Though the Sri Lankan side had a forgettable outing in the Super Four stage, their last clash against India turned out to be a thrilling one as the cricket world witnessed the first super over of the ongoing edition. But putting the on-field excitement and joy aside, Team India’s T20I skipper Suryakumar Yadav was seen consoling Dunith Wellalage in a warm gesture.

In the viral video, the Indian skipper was consoling the youngster and shared some words as the Sri Lankan youngster had gone through the worst tragedy of his life. After sharing a heartfelt chat, SKY was seen giving a warm hug to Wellalage, and his gesture touched fans’ hearts.

A super clash that fans will never forget

Even before meeting Sri Lanka, Team India secured the final berth, but the last clash turned out to be a dramatic one. After Shubman Gill’s early exit, Abhishek Sharma and SKY added 59 runs, while Sanju Samson and Tilak Varma’s 66-run stand propelled India to a total of 202 despite Sri Lanka’s tight bowling.

As the total looked mighty but Pathum Nissanka’s outstanding century and Kusal Perera’s gritty half-century turned the match towards the Super Over. Arshdeep Singh struck early with two wickets, and with the target down to three, SKY calmly sealed India’s thrilling Super Over victory.
