The India-Pakistan rivalry is known for its intensity, and just before the Asia Cup 2025 final, things have heated up off the field, too. Former India pacer Yograj Singh, father of legendary all-rounder Yuvraj Singh, has issued a strong warning to Pakistan after an ugly on-field spat between players.
The drama unfolded when Pakistan pacers Shaheen Afridi, and Haris Rauf were seen exchanging heated words with India’s young openers Abhishek Sharma and Shubman Gill during the Super Four clash.
Yograj Singh warns Pakistan players
Meanwhile, Yograj Singh, speaking to ANI, said the Indian batters were simply focused on their game and did not provoke anyone. He accused the Pakistan pacers of starting the verbal attacks out of frustration.
“I will always be with my country. I am a citizen of my country. If anyone speaks against my country, I will not tolerate it... But, as far as the players are concerned, they should be respected. If your country doesn't respect us, how will the outsiders respect us?” Singh said.
Yograj also came down heavily on Pakistan’s aggression, questioning why the bowlers chose to abuse young Indian batters who were quietly playing their game.
“Both the players were playing. They were not saying anything to anyone. So, the players (Shaheen Afridi and Haris Rauf) went and started abusing them. Neither Abhishek said anything, nor Shubhman. Then what is the point of this? This is not frustration; what is it?” he added.
India will meet Pakistan in the final of the Asia Cup 2025 on Sunday, September 28, at the Dubai International Stadium. Pakistan have been defeated twice in the tournament already by India in the Group and Super Four stages.
India-Pakistan at loggerheads before the final
That being said, BCCI and PCB are at loggerheads just before the final of the Asia Cup 2025. While the Indian board lodged a complaint against Haris Rauf and Sahibzada Farhan for provocative gestures, the Pakistan board filed an objection against Suryakumar Yadav’s comments about the Pahalgam attack.
After hearing, ICC has reportedly found both Suryakumar and Haris guilty and fined them 30% of their match fees. As for Farhan, the opener has been left off the hook with a warning.
