In a remarkable achievement, swashbuckling keeper-batter Rishabh Pant recorded the fastest-ever fifty for India against New Zealand in Test cricket. The explosive left-hander attained the landmark on day 2 of the ongoing third Test against the Blackcaps at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

After restricting New Zealand to a 235-run total in their first innings, India suffered a top-order collapse, losing four wickets inside 19 overs. However, Rishabh Pant steadied the hosts' ship, forming a valuable stand with Shubman Gill for the fifth wicket. 

Hailed for his scintillating stroke-play, Pant adopted a counterattacking approach, tormenting the visitors' bowling unit. He hammered the Kiwis all around the park, eventually bringing up a sparkling half-century, his 13th in Test cricket. He breached the 50-run mark in just 36 deliveries, thus registering the quickest-ever Test fifty by an Indian against the Blackcaps. 

Notably, Rishabh Pant also holds the record for the fastest fifty for India in Tests. He smashed a 28-ball half-century against Sri Lanka in the Bengaluru Test in 2022. 

Gill, Pant Frustrate New Zealand As India Dominate First Session

Riding on stunning half-centuries from Shubman Gill and Rishabh Pant, India have strongly responded to New Zealand's first innings total of 235 runs. The dynamic batting duo has added 88 runs for the fifth wicket, scripting the home team's clinical fightback in the must-win clash. At the time of writing, India were 172 for four, with Gill and Pant batting on 62* and 55*, with India eyeing a crucial first-innings lead in the game.
