According to emerging reports, Chennai Super Kings might go after veteran Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin in the upcoming IPL mega auction. The much-awaited auction will be conducted at the fag end of November, with each franchise bidding for its desired players to form a robust side ahead of the IPL 2025.
On October 31, the ten IPL franchises submitted the final list of their retained players. While Kolkata Knight Riders and Lucknow SuperGiants released Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul, Rishabh Pant didn't find a place in Delhi Capitals' retention list. However, the two most successful IPL teams- Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings- focused on retaining their core, splitting the 75 Cr wisely among their key players.
CSK To Bid For Ashwin, Use RTM For Conway
Meanwhile, according to a TOI report, Chennai Super Kings will likely go after Ravichandran Ashwin and try to get him back in their setup. Notably, Ashwin began his IPL career with the Super Kings, playing a pivotal role in their dominance in the late 2010s and early 2020s.
CSK haven't retained Maheesh Theekshana, so they will be looking to buy a wily tweaker to lead their spin bowling department. In such a scenario, they might consider buying R Ashwin, who has previously represented them in the lucrative league.
Ashwin's inclusion can strengthen CSK's spin bowling unit, with the veteran bowler operating alongside his long-time national teammate Ravindra Jadeja. The lethal duo can be handy for the five-time champions on Chennai's spin-friendly pitch.
The report also claims CSK will likely use their RTM card for experienced New Zealand opener Devon Conway. The southpaw performed admirably for the Chennai-based side, amassing 924 runs at an impressive average of 48.63 and a strike rate of 141.28. So, if CSK use the RTM card for him, they can settle their top order, with Conway and skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad opening the batting.
