Hobart Hurricanes are making a mockery of the target against Sydney Thunder in the finals and the onslaught is being led by their demolition man, Mitchell Owen. The Hurricanes batter smashed the joint third fastest fifty in Big Bash League (BBL) history and reached the landmark in just 16 balls. The target was 183 to achieve, but Owen turned it into child's play with his breathtaking batting.

The fastest fifty record is currently being held by Chris Gayle, who smashed a 12-ball fifty Vs Strikers in 2016. The second fastest fifty was scored by Dan Christian Vs the Strikers as well. This was the fastest fifty in BBL final and the fastest ever scored by a Hurricanes player.

Tom Banton also scored a fifty in 16 balls during the 2020 season, but since Owen has scored more runs than Banton, he stands firm at the third spot in the fastest fifty in BBL.

The Hurricanes reached their team century in just 6 overs and credit should be given to Owen and how he tormented the Thunder with a hitting never seen before. At one point, he was striking at nearly 300, as the Thunder felt helpless and looked out of sorts. David Warner, the Thunder skipper tried all the permutation and combination, but nothing worked against him.
