In a phenomenal achievement, Bangladesh posted their second-highest team total at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. The Tigers achieved the significant milestone during the ongoing second ODI against Sri Lanka.
Emon, Hridoy, Sakib Power Bangladesh To Respectable Total
Bangladesh captain Mehidy Hasan Miraz won the toss and opted to bat first. However, the visitors had a disastrous start to their innings, losing the early wickets of Tanzid Hasan and former captain Najmul Hossain Shanto.
However, Parvez Hossain Emon steadied the ship with Towhid Hridoy, slamming excellent fifties. While Emon got out for 67, Hridoy struck a patient 69-ball 51, ensuring Bangladesh's commendable resurrection.
Although Bangladesh suffered a middle-order collapse, losing Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Jaker Ali and Shamim Hossain cheaply, Tanzim Hasan Sakib played a blinder, making sure the visitors crossed the 245-run mark.
The fast bowler smashed 33 runs off just 21 balls, powering Bangladesh to a 248-run total. He hammered two boundaries and as many sixes, paving the way for a defendable score for his side.
Thus, Bangladesh registered their highest ODI score against Sri Lanka at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. Overall, this is their second-highest team total at the historic venue in ODIs.
Bangladesh's highest ODI totals at R. Premadasa Stadium
- 265 vs India, 2023
- 248 vs Sri Lanka, 2025
- 238 vs Sri Lanka, 2019
- 236 vs Sri Lanka, 2023
- 223 vs Sri Lanka, 2019
As mentioned above, the 265-run score that Bangladesh posted against India back in September 2023 is their highest ODI total at the venue. Their total of 248 runs today is second on the list.
Led by Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Bangladesh had a torrid start to the series, losing the opening encounter by a huge 77-run margin. However, they have put up a solid total and could give the Lankans a run for their money in this must-win clash.
