On Saturday, July 5, Bangladesh locked horns with Sri Lanka in the 2nd ODI of the three-match series. In the ongoing match, the Tigers, batting first, lost wickets at regular intervals, but Parvez Emon and Towhid Hridoy took the onus on their shoulders. Emon scored a fifty, while Towhid, who was batting on 20, reached a milestone.

Hridoy Completes 1000 ODI Runs

Talking about Hridoy, the 24-year-old completed 1000 ODI runs and became the joint-second fastest Bangladesh batter to reach this milestone.

Before the start of the match, Hridoy required 15 runs to complete 1000 runs. The right-handed batter achieved the feat in just 33 innings, equalling Soumya Sarkar's record, who also took 33 innings.

Only Shahriar Nafees and Anamul Haque have reached the milestone in fewer innings (29 each).

Towhid Hridoy Off to a Flying Start in ODI Career

Hridoy made his ODI debut in 2023 and took the world by storm as the 24-year-old smashed 92 off 85 balls on his debut, which is the highest score by a Bangladesh player in their first ODI match.

Overall, Hridoy has played 37 ODIs and amassed 1,010 runs, averaging 34.80. The 24-year-old has a century and seven fifty-plus scores.

Hridoy Struggles Against Sri Lanka

Despite a major accomplishment in the 2nd ODI, Hridoy is yet to register a big score in the ongoing series, as the right-handed batter was dismissed for just a single run in the first match. Further, at the time of writing this article, Hridoy is batting on 28 (47), which includes a solitary boundary.

Talking about the ongoing match, Bangladesh are 169/5 after 32 overs and are finding it difficult to post a big total on the board.
