England going up against South Africa at the Wankhede Stadium was always going to be a big-ticket encounter of World Cup 2023 and with both teams losing their respective matches to less fancied teams, the match has become even more important now. Wankhede is known to be a chasing paradise and Buttler rightly decided to bowl first after winning the toss. They got an early breakthrough as well with Reece Topley getting a big wicket of Quinton de Kock in the second delivery of the game but since then it has all been South Africa with Reeza Hendricks and Rassie van der Dussen notching up a century-plus stand.

Quinton de Kock started South Africa's innings with a bang, smashing a boundary of the very first ball. However, Reece Topley followed it up with a good outswinger that got the better of the South Africa's most celebrated batter. Rassie van der Dussen then joined hands with Reeza Hendricks who is playing his first match of the tournament and both of them started on a cautious note.

The first six overs went for just 18 runs with Willey and Topley bowling well in tandem. However, Topley injured his finger in the seventh over and went off the field, which changed the fortunes as South Africa started getting boundaries more freely. Soon, both the batters got into their groove and played some glorious shots as England with only limited bowling options struggled to keep the scoring rate under check.

Reeza Hendricks and Rassie van der Dussen both got to their fifties in the 17th over but just when Rassie looked set to get a big total, Adil Rashid provided an important breakthrough, getting rid of South Africa's number 3. At the time of writing, South Africa are 126-2 at the end of 20 overs and would be looking to kick on and get a big score on the board.
