The inevitable happened and the Rishabh Pant led Lucknow Super Giants have crashed out of the IPL 2025 playoff race. They now join CSK, RR, KKR and SRH as the teams to bow out of the playoff qualification scenario. The team had to beat the Sunrisers to stay alive in the race, but the home team were completely outplayed as they got knocked out.
SRH spoil LSG's party with comprehensive win
The LSG side needed to win all their remaining matches to stay alive in the playoff race and the quest started from the SRH game, but the Orange Army had some other plans. Put into bat by Pat Cummins, LSG were off to a great start with Aiden Markram and Mitch Marsh adding 115 runs for the first wicket.
The side then lost a couple of quick wickets as the momentum was derailed. However, Nicholas Pooran came to the party and smacked a quick-fire 26-ball 45 as LSG posted 205/7. In reply, LSG witnessed the Abhishek Sharma show as the opener smacked a 18-ball fifty (which was the joint third fastest of the season).
Once Abhishek departed, Heinrich Klaasen and Kamindu Mendis played the finishers' role to perfection to knock the Pant led side out of playoff race.
LSG's points tally in IPL 2025
So far, in 12 matches, LSG have only won 5 games and have lost 7. At the moment, they have 10 points and even if they win the remaining two matches, the Lucknow based team can only reach maximum of 14 points which won't be sufficient enough for qualification.
