Goenka leaves stands in frustration [Source: @Rajiv1841/x.com]
The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 has been nothing short of a horror show for the Lucknow Super Giants captain, Rishabh Pant. Having being bought for INR 27 crore, expectations were high from him, but so far, it has been a nightmare for the southpaw.
Why Sanjiv Goenka was angry at Pant?
In 12 matches, he has only accumulated 128 runs and the strike-rate has not even touched the strike-rate of 100. The poor run continued in the ongoing match against Sunrisers Hyderabad as the southpaw was dismissed for a paltry 6-ball 7. It was a soft dismissal which frustrated Pant, but more than him, someone else was also angry.
LSG owner, Sanjiv Goenka looked visibly angry as he was in the stands watching the game, but when Pant departed, he reached his breaking point as the owner walked away and left the stands. He had invested 27 crore on Pant, but so far, the team stares at elimination and his highest paid player hasn't delivered the goods.
In the clash against SRH, platform was laid for a Pant special, but he failed. When he walked into bat, the openers, Mitch Marsh and Aiden Markram had added 115 runs for the opening wicket and Pant had the license to go for the big shots.
Pant's IPL 2025 journey
So far, he only has one fifty-plus score in the IPL, and that too came in a losing cause Vs CSK. His next best score has been 18 runs and there have been numerous single-digit scores in the ongoing season. The price tag of 27 crore has taken a toll as the aggressive batter isn't playing his natural game and that is affecting his game.
