Wanindu Hasaranga mocks Abrar [Source: @cricketnext/X.com]
Things can’t get any fierier than this as tensions flared up during the ongoing Pakistan vs Sri Lanka Asia Cup Super 4 clash. As Pakistan came in to chase Sri Lanka’s 134-run target, Wanindu Hasaranga, the mighty all-rounder for the team, dashed in with a mock celebration of Abrar Ahmed, Pakistan’s spinner.
Notably, during Sri Lanka’s batting, Abrar Ahmed bowled out Hasaranga with a brilliant googly. After the wicket, Abrar copied Hasaranga’s trademark celebration with a hand gesture. It seems Hasaranga just served Abrar instant karma, as he also mocked Abrar, looking at Pakistan's dugout after dismissing Saim Ayub.
Hasaranga serves it right to Abrar?
Coming into the chase, Pakistan seemed to start well with Sahibzada Farhan and Fakhar Zaman opening, but soon they collapsed under heavy pressure from the Sri Lankan bowlers. The first wicket fell in the 6th over when Farhan was dismissed, and just a ball later, Fakhar Zaman followed against Theekshana.
It was then time for Saim Ayub’s dismissal, who again disappointed with just a two-run knock in this tournament. Wanindu Hasaranga bowled a brilliant delivery to clean him up, leaving Ayub bamboozled. After the wicket, Hasaranga didn’t waste time and hit Abrar Ahmed’s signature celebration pose, which is crossing his arms over his chest and nodding his head, to mock Abrar, just as Abrar had done earlier.
The fiery retort from Hasaranga was spot on as Pakistan crumbled. At the time of writing, Pakistan need 47 runs from 42 balls, struggling at 87 for 5 at the end of 13 overs.
Pakistan in hot waters!
Currently, Hussain Talat and Mohammad Nawaz are at the crease to chase the target, which isn’t stiff but troublesome with half the side down. Sri Lanka have a good grip now with Maheesh Theekshana scalping two wickets, Wanindu Hasaranga two wickets, and Dushmantha Chameera one.
With Hasaranga left with one more over, and bowlers like Nuwan Thushara, Chameera, and Charith Asalanka still to bowl, Pakistan face a riveting contest. Notably, whichever team loses tonight will virtually bid goodbye to the Asia Cup 2025, as both sides have already lost their opening Super 4 clash.
