In a significant development, the ICC has suspended USA Cricket after failing to adhere to the ICC's instructions regarding free and fair elections. The exact reason behind the suspension is unknown, but it is a massive blow to the future of cricket in the United States of America.
In a report by Cricinfo, the decision was taken by the ICC board in a virtual meeting on Tuesday, September 23.
Will the USA Bow Out Of the T20 World Cup 2026?
USA cricket rose to fame after they hosted the 2024 T20 World Cup, and also the Monank Patel-led side beat Pakistan at their home and also reached the next round following a great show in their own country. A great performance helped the USA steal the limelight and also qualify for the 2026 T20 World Cup set to be hosted by India and Sri Lanka in February and March.
The report added that the recent suspension won't have any impact on the USA's T20 World Cup 2026 participation and will travel to India and Sri Lanka for the mega T20 event.
USA Cricket Chairman Unaware Of Suspension
Interestingly, the USA cricket board chairman is unaware of the recent suspension by the ICC. USAC chairman Venu Pisike told ESPNcricinfo that there had been "no communication" yet from ICC on the suspension.
Further, it has also put cricket in 2028 LA Olympics into doubt as the sport will be re-introduced into Olympics after a long time and USA were reported to be one of the six teams set to take part in the mega-event three years later.
Now, since it is unknown about the extent of the termination, it is to be seen who will oversee the operations at USA cricket.
