India A and Australia A are currently playing a two-match unofficial Test series, and they will begin a three-match ODI series from September 30. However, the big news is that Virat Kohli, who was expected to play the ODIs against Australia A was not picked due to communication gap.
Why Kohli was not selected for Australia A series?
According to reports from Revsportz sources, India’s Chief Selector Ajit Agarkar recently contacted Kohli regarding his plans for the 50-over format. The sources indicated there was some pessimism due to a lack of communication from Kohli’s end.
It is important to note, however, that Virat Kohli recently underwent a fitness test arranged by the BCCI in London, where he is currently staying. His recent preparations suggest that his participation in the Australia tour in October remains likely. It is important to note that, nothing has been officially confirmed yet.
Virat Kohli likely to get back in the national jersey in October
For context, Virat Kohli has been out of competitive cricket since June after RCB’s IPL triumph. He announced his T20I retirement back in 2024 and announced his Test cricket retirement back in May 2025, leaving the 50-over format as the only international format he is still active in.
Notably, Virat Kohli commands the ODI format with his 14,181 runs from 302 matches. This is the only format where Kohli has garnered most runs and also bags the best career average of 57.88 and at a strike rate of 93.34.
