Chennai Super Kings’ (CSK), newest recruit for IPL 2025, Shreyas Gopal brought some serious spice to Karnataka’s game against Baroda in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2024-25. The leg-spinner spun pure gold and grabbed a hat-trick in style which included the huge wickets of Pandya brothers.
Pandya Brothers Silenced By CSK’s Shreyas Gopal
Baroda was cruising, with Shashwat Rawat smashing it all over the park. Karnataka needed something special to stay in the game, and in walked Shreyas Gopal. Rawat, who had smashed 63 off 36, mistimed his shot and handed an easy catch to Manish Pandey.
Next ball? Hardik Pandya walked in, full of swagger. But Gopal had other plans. A deceptive delivery, and Hardik’s mistimed his shot ended up in safe hands. Golden duck for the Mumbai Indians skipper.
And then came Krunal Pandya. Gopal trapped him plumb in front, and Krunal had to walk back for another golden duck as Shreyas Gopal completed his hattrick The Pandya brothers were left shaking their heads, and Gopal was off running in pure joy, soaking in the crowd’s energy.
It’s not every day you see both Pandya brothers dismissed for ducks, let alone in back-to-back balls. Hardik and Krunal looked as stunned. For Baroda, it was like the carpet had been pulled out from under their feet. Their chase, which looked solid, started falling apart after that over.
Before all the drama, Karnataka had set the stage with a solid 169/8. KL Shrijith gave them a fiery start with 22 off 9 balls, and Abhinav Manohar went ballistic at the end, smashing 56* off just 34 balls with six sixes.
Smaran R chipped in with a steady 38. Baroda’s bowlers, especially Atit Sheth (2/26) and Krunal Pandya (2/22), did well to keep things in check, but they couldn’t stop Karnataka from setting a challenging total.
Baroda’s Chase Derailed
Baroda’s chase started strong, thanks to Rawat’s fireworks. But once Gopal got into the act, the wheels came off. Hardik and Krunal’s golden ducks were a hammer blow.
Gopal then dismissed Bhanu Pania for 42 off 24 balls to pick his fourth wicket. At the time of writing this article, Baroda is reeling at 120/5, needing another 50 runs from seven overs.
