Babar Azam was supposedly ignored by a kid [Source: @ahtashamriaz22/x.com]
Pakistan’s batting mainstay, Babar Azam just can’t seem to catch a break these days. Whether it’s his bat going silent or trolls firing shots at him online, the star batter has been in the hot seat.
Did Trolls Twist the Truth About Babar Azam’s Viral Handshake?
The latest incident? A viral video where a kid apparently ignored him at a public event. But is that what really happened? Not quite. In the short clip doing the rounds, a young boy appeared to snub Babar’s handshake while happily greeting others. Fans and trolls had a field day, taking digs at Babar for being ignored on and off the field.
But here’s the catch: when the full video came out, the story flipped. The kid did shake hands with Babar first before moving on to others. So, what’s the deal? Someone clearly trimmed the video to stir up trouble and troll Babar Azam.
The full video shows he shook hands with him first. But the trolls ran with an incomplete clip, turning it into another jab at the under-fire star.
Tough Times for Babar on the Field
While social media had its fun, Babar’s struggles on the field have been hard to ignore. His form has been dismal. During the recent Test series against England in Multan, he managed just 30 and 5 runs. Things got so bad that he was dropped from the playing XI for the rest of the series. And to rub salt in the wound, Pakistan won the series without him.
It didn’t get any better in the white-ball series against Australia. Across three T20Is, Babar scored only 47 runs, followed by a disappointing 80 in the ODIs. For someone once compared to the greats of the game, those numbers are way below par.
And it’s not just a recent dip. Since 2023, Babar’s Test average has plummeted to 20.7. His last big knock was 161 against New Zealand in December 2022. Since then, it’s been a long, tough drought. Rested for the current series against Zimbabwe, it’s clear Pakistan is giving him some space to figure things out.
For Babar, the pressure is mounting, both on and off the pitch. Will the former skipper bounce back? Only time will tell.
