Shreyas Gopal has been around in Indian cricketing circles for a decade now. He has been a brilliant performer in domestic cricket and has also played IPL for three teams over the years. He made his debut in the Indian Premier League during the 2014 IPL for Mumbai Indians, but could play only six games in the three seasons.
It was his move to RR in the 2018 season that worked in his favour and in the 2019 season, the leggie from Karnataka created history with a hattrick against RCB. He picked 20 wickets in 14 matches of that season, and the hattrick included massive wickets of Virat Kohli, AB de Villiers and Marcus Stoinis.
Shreyas Gopal Removed Virat Kohli, AB De Villiers And Marcus Stoinis In His 2019 IPL Hattrick
It was a rain-curtailed five-over game at M. Chinnaswamy. RCB started well with Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers opening the innings. They scored 35 runs in the initial 9 balls, but Shreyas Gopal turned the tables drastically, by first removing Virat Kohli with a loopy delivery. The then RCB captain hit the ball straight down the throat of long on, while on the next delivery, ABD was caught at mid off by Riyan Parag. It was again a nice tossed up delivery and the South Africa star miscued his slog completely.
The final wicket was of Stoinis. He hit a full delivery straight and flat to mid off and RCB were reduced to 35-3. They eventually managed to score 62 and RR in their chase were well to win the game, but rain hampered the proceedings and their was no result of the match.
However, RCB after the game, became the first team to get knocked out of IPL 2019, and Shreyas Gopal continued to play next two seasons for RR. In the 2024 mega auction, he has been bought by CSK for 30 Lakhs. So, it would be interesting to see how he goes about his business at the Chepauk.
