Indian all-rounder Washington Sundar lit up the County Championship with a breathtaking performance for Hampshire against Surrey at The Rose Bowl Stadium in Southampton. The 25-year-old asserted his authority by having a significant impact with both bat and ball.
On Wednesday, September 24, Sundar bowled 3.2 overs in the first innings and picked up 3 wickets for just 5 runs. His precise spin bowling troubled Surrey’s batters, helping Hampshire dominate in the early stages of the match.
The Indian spinner’s sharp turn and clever variations made life extremely difficult for the visiting team.

But Washington Sundar wasn’t done yet. On Thursday, September 25, he came out to bat at no.7 and played a brilliant innings, scoring 56 runs off 110 balls.
He hit 5 fours and 2 sixes and emerged as the lone Hampshire batter to score more than 50 runs in the first innings. Sundar’s determined knock helped Hampshire build a 101-run lead, giving his team a strong position in the match.
This isn’t Sundar’s first remarkable showing in the County Championship. Earlier in the season, in his debut match for Hampshire against Somerset at Taunton, he scored 23 and 46 in two innings and also picked up a wicket, proving his value as a genuine all-rounder.
Sundar receives call-up for home Test series vs West Indies
That being said, Washington Sundar will have to fly back home soon after this County game, as he has been selected into India’s 15-member squad for the upcoming Test series against West Indies.
The first Test is scheduled at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on October 2. The second and final Test will be played on October 10 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi.
