Capping an eventful day in the world of cricket, here we take a look at five of the biggest cricketing news that emerged out of Thursday, September 18.

Sanju Samson’s 56, Arshdeep Singh Record Headline IND Win

Team India capped its Group A campaign of the 2025 Men’s T20 Asia Cup on a winning note against Oman in Abu Dhabi. Abhishek Sharma started off the match with a fiery 15-ball 38, while Sanju Samson top-scored in the innings through his calculated 56 from 45 balls as India reached 188-8 from 20 overs. Oman fought valiantly in the run-chase, with opening batter Aamir Kaleem (64 off 46) and number three Hammad Mirza (51 off 33) both smearing scintillating half-centuries. However, crucial wickets from Hardik Pandya, Kuldeep Yadav and a landmark 100th wicket for Arshdeep Singh orchestrated India’s 21-run win.

Australia Women Fined By ICC After Biggest Defeat

The Australia Women cricket team has been penalized by the International Cricket Council (ICC) for maintaining a slow over-rate against India Women in New Chandigarh. The players have been fined 10 percent of their match fees after they were found two overs short despite taking time allowance into consideration in the Indian innings. Australia Women also suffered their biggest ever ODI defeat in history in the game, in terms of runs, as they folded up for just 190 in 40.5 overs while chasing India’s 292.

Rehan Ahmed Jumps Into Ashes 2025-26 Contention: Report

England spin bowling all-rounder Rehan Ahmed is in contention of getting selected in the national squad for this year’s Ashes 2025-26 series in Australia. The 21-year-old last played a Test match back in October 2024 during a series in Pakistan. So far, the cricketer has picked up 22 wickets in his five-match career at an average of 31.22. According to reports in the English media, Rehan Ahmed is considered because of his prolific run in this year’s County Championship Division Two season for Leicestershire, where he has aggregated 760 runs with the bat all while harvesting 23 wickets.

PCB Denies ICC Rule Violation With Fiery Response

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has responded to ICC’s allegation of rule violation in the ongoing 2025 Men’s T20 Asia Cup. Addressing the ICC claim of violating playing protocols by allowing media manager into space reserved only for players and officials, the PCB stated that the media manager had authorized access to the PMOA, meaning that his presence was not a violation. A report further indicated that PCB believes that the ICC should question match referee regarding the matter.

Josh Inglis Ruled Out Of New Zealand Tour

Australia wicketkeeper-batter Josh Inglis has been ruled out of the upcoming three-match T20I tour of New Zealand next month owing to a calf strain. Cricket Australia has now called up Alex Carey as Josh’s replacement for the series. Carey last played a T20I for Australia last month during the second T20I of the series against South Africa.

Notably, Josh Inglis is the fourth first-choice Australian cricketer to get ruled out of the New Zealand series after ODI and Test captain Pat Cummins, all-rounder Cameron Green and fast bowler Nathan Ellis.
