In the ongoing 2nd Test between England and Sri Lanka at the Lord's, Gus Atkinson scripted history after he scored a century in the first innings.

England, batting first, put 427 runs on the board. Joe Root was the star with the bat as he scored 143 (206), which featured 18 boundaries.

Meanwhile, Atkinson stole the limelight after he scored 118 (115), batting at number eight which featured 14 fours and four sixes.

With the feat, Atkinson joined the elite list which has the legend Ian Botham in it, to become the second English player to score a century and take a ten-wicket haul in the same season at Lord's.

It is worth noting that former India cricketer Vinoo Mankad was the first and only non-English cricketer to score a century and take a fifer at the Lord’s.

Several other players like England’s Gubby Allen, Stuart Broad, and the current pace spearhead Chris Woakes also have their names etched in the iconic Lord's board in both batters and bowlers list but they have scored a ton and taken a five wicket-haul in different seasons.

Gus Atkinson's Seven-Wicket Haul At Lord's

Notably, Atkinson made his Test debut at Lord's against West Indies in July, 2024 where he took a seven-wicket haul. He registered the figures of 7/45 in the first innings and scripted a five-wicket haul in the second innings.

Even in the ongoing match, Atkinson took two wickets in the first innings and played a major role in restricting Sri Lanka to just 196 runs. The right-arm seamer also holds a chance to take a five-wicket haul in the second innings and script history by smashing a century and taking a fifer in the same match at Lord's.
