Young Indian batter Devdutt Padikkal had a horrendous start to his IPL 2024 campaign, as he was castled by Trent Boult in LSG's tournament opener in Jaipur.

The incident occurred in the third over of LSG's innings when they had already lost the early wicket of Quinton de Kock. After surprising Padikkal with a lethal bouncer, Boult slipped in a length delivery, which cleaned up Padikkal.

It was a wobbled seam delivery from Boult that stayed a tad low after pitching. While Padikkal went for a pull shot with planted feet, the ball sneaked through the gap between his bat and pad to shatter the timber.

Notably, this was Padikkal's first outing for LSG after being traded by the Royals ahead of the IPL mini auction last year. However, he looked out of sorts during his brief stay before Boult cleaned him up with a beauty.

Earlier, the Royals posted a mammoth 193-run total on the board, riding on a flamboyant half century from skipper Sanju Samson. Barring the captain, Riyan Parag emerged as RR's hero with the bat, contributing 43 runs.

Thanks to Boult's exploits in the powerplay, the Royals have run through the Super Giants' top order, reducing them to 31 for three in 4.4 overs, with KL Rahul and Deepak Hooda batting on 6* and 16*, respectively.
