Coming out at three and playing one of the finest knocks in World Cup history, that too in the opening game of the World Cup 2023 against England, Rachin Ravindra made a name for himself as he smashed a fighting century partnering with Devon Conway. Chasing 283 for victory, New Zealand lost one early but didn't lose another for the remainder of the game.

Ravindra picked up a wicket alongside scoring 123* with Conway amassing 152* for the second wicket, which gave the defending champions much trouble as the match was finished inside 37 overs. After the game, he praised his partner Conway for showing him the way at the start, as he added that he has a special bond with the southpaw.

Also, Rachin mentioned that they all knew what kind of force Devon would be in the upcoming years, and it was just a matter of time before he made a name on the big stage.

"Great to have a great day. Boys bowled and fielded well to restrict them to 280. Luckily, I had Devon out there to show me how to do it. (I am) Very, very close with Devon. Special to finish it off with him. 4-5 years ago, we all knew Devon would become the player he is. Above all, he's a great guy."

When asked about his inclusion in the side, the youngster mentioned that it all happened yesterday as they learned about the news of pacer Lockie Ferguson suffering from a niggle. Rachin remarked that he didn't have much trouble sleeping after getting to know about his inclusion, as he generally sleeps well.

"It was yesterday (because of) the thing (niggle) with Lockie. Good to get the opportunity. We'll see what happens. I'm actually quite a good sleeper, luckily. There was some swing, but the surface was really good to bat on."

After this impressive victory, the BlackCaps will next face the Netherlands on 9th October at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad.
