Indian opener Shubman Gill wasted his wicket away against Pakistan in the high-stakes Asia Cup 2025 final, and fans weren’t happy as the vice-captain wasted a good start in a 147-run chase.

Pakistan, batting first, posted 146 runs on the board in what turned out to be an ugly collapse. From 113/1, the men in green folded for 146/10 courtesy of Kuldeep Yadav’s sensational 4-wicket-haul.

That being said, in the run chase, India had a shaky start. In-form opener Abhishek Sharma was dismissed on just 5 runs in what came as a major blow to the men in blue. To add to the misery, India also lost captain Suryakumar Yadav on 1 run.

Shubman Gill, the vice-captain, had gotten a good start at 12 off 10 balls. However, Faheem Ashraf ended his stay to further dent India. Gill, who had struck a crisp boundary, looked to press on with another aggressive shot but ended up mistiming a pull.

The ball went high, and Haris Rauf pulled off a sharp overhead catch at mid-on to send the Indian opener back for 12 off 10 balls. With Gill’s wicket, India slipped to 3 down early with just 20 runs on the board.

With yet another failure in this tournament, Shubman Gill faced heat from fans on social media. Many slammed him for wasting a good start and for not showing composure under pressure.

Having said that, after Shubman Gill’s wicket, Sanju Samson and Tilak Varma are out in the middle, rebuilding the chase for India. At 8 overs, the men in blue have 49 runs on the board at the loss of 3 wickets, with 98 required off 72 balls.
