Another Asia Cup match and another failure from Pakistan T20I captain, Salman Ali Agha. The skipper of the side has been decent as a leader, but he has failed in the tournament with the bat and the trend continued in the finals against the Indian team. Despite the platform being set, Salman Agha failed and scored 8 off 7.

For a captain who talks about having players with a higher strike rate, Salman Agha has the worst strike rate in the team, and with yet another failure, perhaps the time has come for Pakistan to take a harsh call and drop him from T20Is. Here are 3 major reasons why the PCB should drop him from the game’s shortest format.

1) Only talk, no numbers

Pakistan coach, Mike Hesson, dropped senior players due to their poor numbers (especially strike rate), but they kept Agha in the team and made him the captain, and the numbers are there for everyone to see. Even in the ongoing Asia Cup, things turned from bad to worse after his final failure.

  • A strike rate of less than 100, and just 72 runs define his Asia Cup campaign. He failed to deliver the goods when Pakistan needed him the most. Moreover, he has a T20I strike rate of 110, which showcases his inability to score runs quickly.

2) Replacements ready

As per recent reports by Express Tribune, Pakistan selectors are contemplating bringing Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan back in the T20I setup. With Sahibzada Farhan doing well at the top, Babar could slot in at the top alongside him - especially with Saim Ayub failing.

Moreover, Rizwan can bat at his usual number four spot, and that would leave no room for a defensive-minded Salman Ali Agha in the Pakistan XI.

3) nothing impressive in his captaincy

When he was appointed the T20I captain, the expectations was high, but so far, things have blown hot and cold for him.

He lost vs New Zealand away from home, defeated Bangladesh at home, and then lost against the same side in away fixtures. They won the T20Is against the West Indies and won the UAE Tri-series against the minnows, Afghanistan, and the UAE.

Moreover, even in the ongoing Asia Cup, Pakistan reached the finals not due to his brilliant captaincy, but due to individual brilliance.
