Sanju Samson goes past MS Dhoni's six-hitting tally in T20I cricket

India's designated wicket-keeping batter in the T20I format, Sanju Samson, has surpassed MS Dhoni in a massive record. Playing for India against Sri Lanka in the ongoing Asia Cup 2025, Samson played a handsome 39-run knock, smashing a boundary and three maximums on the way.

Sanju Samson gets the most sixes for India in T20Is as a wicketkeeper

India's big-hitting wicket-keeping batter, Sanju Samson, has done a tremendous job in T20I cricket for India, where he has thumped plenty of runs. To be precise, 969 runs in just 48 matches as he has struck runs at a strike rate of 149.07. Interestingly, on the way, he has also smacked 55 maximums in T20I cricket, as he has now overtaken former Indian legendary wicket-keeping batter, Mahendra Singh Dhoni, in the most sixes tally for India as a wicketkeeper.

Dhoni has 52 sixes in 98 T20I matches, and Samson has now overtaken him with three more maximums. Behind Dhoni on the list now is Rishabh Pant, who has 44 sixes in 76 matches, while Ishan Kishan is fourth with 36 big hits in 32 games.

Samson has been India's main weapon in the T20I format, previously opening innings and now getting the opportunity to bat in the middle order, where he has shown his prowess with the bat.

Samson's innings that helped India get to a par total

Sanju, who came on to bat at 5th position against Sri Lanka in the ongoing Asia Cup 2025, scored 39 runs off 23 deliveries with three maximums and a boundary while batting at a strike rate of 169.57. Alongside him, Tilak Varma scored 49 not out, and Abhishek Sharma scored 61 as India raced to 202 for 5 after the completion of their 20 overs.

In reply, Sri Lanka, going very well on the back of Pathum Nissanka's 107 and Kusal Perera's 58, were only able to tie the game in the end, as the match went into the super over.

In the super over, Sri Lanka scored just 2 as India won the game comfortably on the very first delivery, ultimately earning a victory in the final game of the Super 4s stage in Dubai. As for India, they will now be playing Pakistan in the final of the multilateral continental tournament, while Sri Lanka have already been eliminated.
