As the ICC Women’s World Cup 2025 gets underway, all eyes will be on the India-Pakistan clash. Just days before the tournament kicked off, Jemimah Rodrigues admitted that the rivalry brings an energy that’s impossible to shut out.

India-Pakistan cricketing relations have never been the same since the 2008 Mumbai terrorist attack. While the players still competed on the field, sportsmanship has now vanished after the Pahalgam incident that happened earlier this year.

Jemimah Rodrigues on Ind-Pak pressure

Meanwhile, in the upcoming ICC Women’s World Cup 2025, India will clash with Pakistan on October 5 at Colombo. Ahead of the clash, Indian batter Jemimah Rodrigues, talking to NDTV, had admitted that the hype is unavoidable.

Regardless, Rodrigues said that once players take the field, the outside noise no longer matters, and all they strive for is to win.

"How much ever you want to shut the noise, somewhere or the other it is there. But once you're in, it's only about the ball, the bat, and winning for India," Rodrigues said.

The 25-year-old, who is at the peak of her career, is nervous yet excited to feature in a World Cup, which is also at home. She still remembers 2017, when she went to the airport as a teenager to welcome the team home after their World Cup journey.

"Nervous and excited at the same time. I just want to win it for India, that's all.  It's crazy to see how life has come back. This time, I want to be the one holding the World Cup at the airport. Pressure is good, but it depends on what kind of pressure you take. If I think of the crowd as being with me, cheering me, it gives me confidence. Our focus has to be on the process, not the noise," she added.

Suryakumar Yadav backs Jemimah to shine in the World Cup

Indian T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav has thrown his support behind Jemimah Rodrigues ahead of her maiden Women’s World Cup appearance.

Praising her calmness and positivity, he described her as “chhota packet, bada dhamaka”, highlighting her ability to stay composed under pressure.

“I think for Jemi, the best way to describe her is ‘chhota packet, bada dhamaka.’ One thing that stands out about her is that she always has a smile on her face. No matter the situation—whether she’s on top or things aren’t going her way, she remains calm and relaxed,” Suryakumar said in a video uploaded on BCCI Women.

Suryakumar added that even the men’s team learns from her handling of high-pressure matches. Confident in her infectious energy, he believes Jemimah will play a key role as India aims for World Cup glory at home.
