On Tuesday, August 12, South Africa locked horns against Australia in the second T20I of the three-match series. This time around, the hosts won the toss and opted to field. South Africa, batting first, lost three wickets in the first seven overs. Notably, Glenn Maxwell triggered the collapse as the right-arm seamer took two wickets in his first two overs.

However, Maxwell was denied a third after Lhuan-dre Pretorius' wicket was deemed a run-out rather than a stumping. Meanwhile, this article will explain why the umpire gave it a run-out.

Notably, on the fifth ball of the seventh over, Pretorius had advanced down the track for a big hit, but the ball hit his body and the ball rolled onto the keeper Alex Carey, who picked it up from the ground and quickly dislodged the bails to dismiss the southpaw. For those unversed as to why the umpire didn't add the wicket to Maxwell's tally.

Why Was Lhuan dre Pretorius Given A Run-Out?

Notably, the reason why umpire deemed it to be a run-out was because they thought that Pretorius was way out of his crease and looked to seal a run as he was unaware where the ball was. Thus, Pretorius was given run-out because they attempted a run.

Had Pretorius just stepped out of his crease, without the intention of taking a run, then the wicket would have gone in Glenn Maxwell's account and with the three wickets in the 2nd T20I, the Big Show would have completed 50 T20I wickets.

Talking about the ongoing match, at the time of writing this article, South Africa are cruising towards a big total on the board and the Proteas have put 179/3 on the board after 16 years.
