Dewald Brevis has shown great form in the last year or so, and it has brought him back into the South African side. The batter made fifty on his Test debut and then played quite a few quality T20I knocks in the tri-series in Zimbabwe last month.

He was expected to continue that good form in the T20I series against Australia too, but the batter has failed in his maiden outing Down Under. The 22-year-old walked out to bat at number 4 in the run-chase of 179. South Africa were 40-2 at that time in the fifth over, and the Proteas need Brevis to keep the scoring rate going and support Ryan Rickelton at the other end.

Ben Dwarshuis Outfoxes Dewald Brevis With A Clever Slower Delivery

However, Australian bowlers bowled some tight lines, and Dewald Brevis, who is a free-flowing player, failed to get going in his initial five balls. It forced the right-handed to do something different, and it led to his downfall. On the fifth ball of the last over of the Powerplay, Ben Dwarshuis bowled a fuller delivery on middle. Brevis tried to whip it towards the leg side, but it was a slower delivery and the South African completely mistimed it.

The ball went high in the air towards the cover-point region, and Sean Abbott settled under it to give the Aussies their third wicket of the game. Thus, Brevis could manage just two runs off six balls, and South Africa were reduced to 48 for three inside the Powerplay.

Brevis' failure will be disappointing for the South African fans, who will be hoping that the cricketer can replicate his CSK form at the international level too. Heinrich Klaasen has recently retired from international cricket, and it has opened up a spot for Brevis, which he would like to grab with impactful performances in the upcoming matches.
