The ongoing 14th match of the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup 2023 between Australia and Sri Lanka at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium, Lucknow was interrupted by rain.

Australia, after a challenging start with the ball, began to make a comeback by taking quick wickets in the middle overs before the rain delay. The rain started falling heavily as the first ball of the 33rd over was bowled, leading the umpires to instruct both teams to leave the field.

As the rain continued, the players left the field, and the ground staff swiftly brought out the covers to protect the pitch and ensure it remains in good condition when the game resumes.

During this rain delay, a heartwarming moment unfolded as veteran Australian cricketer David Warner was seen assisting the ground staff in covering the pitch.

Turning to the match, Sri Lanka made a strong start with an opening partnership of a hundred runs between Pathum Nissanka (61) and Kusal Mendis (78). The partnership was becoming threatening until Australian skipper Pat Cummins, with the help of Warner's brilliant catch in the deep, broke the stand.

Cummins then dismissed the well-set Kusal Perera, sparking a minor collapse. Sri Lankan skipper Kusal Mendis attempted to take on Adam Zampa but ended up losing his wicket, thanks to another stunning catch by Warner. Zampa then outfoxed Sadeera Samarawickrama, leaving Sri Lanka at 166/4.

Once the rain stopped, the Sri Lankan batters lost the momentum as wickets started to tumble at regular intervals. The Lankan batters were trapped by Adam Zampa as they failed to read the Aussie spinners.
