After experiencing back-to-back losses in the ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup 2023, Australian captain Pat Cummins and his team are determined to reverse their fortunes as they prepare to face Sri Lanka in Lucknow on October 15.

Australia, the five-time World Cup champions, commenced their World Cup journey with a six-wicket loss to India in Chennai. Their subsequent defeat to South Africa, with a margin of 134 runs, marked Australia's most significant loss in World Cup history.

South Africa, batting first, posted a formidable total of 311 runs, powered by Quinton de Kock's century. The Australian chase turned disastrous as they found themselves at 70 for 6. While Marnus Labuschagne's 46 provided some resistance, Australia was eventually bowled out for 177.

Australia has suffered back-to-back losses for the first time since 1992, raising concerns about their tournament prospects.

Cummins conveyed a sense of urgency and determination ahead of their crucial World Cup clash. He highlighted the gravity of the situation, acknowledging that "almost every upcoming game feels like a final."

"We need to start winning and do it quickly. Almost every upcoming game feels like a final, and we have to win most of them. Fortunately, we're about to face teams we've had success against, and we can approach those matches with confidence," said Captain Cummins during a pre-match press conference in Lucknow.

Cummins also reminded everyone that it wasn't too long before that Australia were the number one ranked team in the world. And he said that his team is aware of what makes them a formidable unit.

"We are well aware of what makes us a formidable team. It wasn't too long ago when we were ranked number one in the world, so we don't have to look back far to recall when we were at our best," Cummins added.

The underwhelming performance of the middle-order batsmen has been a significant concern for the Australian team. Cummins' captaincy has also faced scrutiny, primarily regarding his on-field strategies and team selection.

With their back against the wall, the Australian team recognizes the necessity of securing victories in the upcoming matches to reinvigorate their World Cup campaign.

As Australia seeks to rejuvenate their campaign in the kngoing World Cup, the match against Sri Lanka assumes paramount importance. The team is eager to regain its winning momentum and revive the spirit that has made them a dominant force in international cricket.
