Ishan Kishan owned the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy final stage with a scintillating knock of 101 off 49 balls. He knitted a 177-run partnership with Kumar Kushagra to put Jharkhand in the driver’s seat.
The Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2025 final between Jharkhand and Haryana kicked off on December 18 at the MCA Stadium in Pune.
Jharkhand batted first, with Kishan walking out to open with Virat Singh. The latter was dismissed by Anshul Kamboj on just 2 runs before Kushagra joined forces with Ishan.
Ishan Kishan plays a impactful knock in the SMAT final
Jharkhand captain Ishan Kishan utilised the powerplay by hitting 18 runs off Amit Rana’s sixth over, which consisted of 3 big sixes.
He hammered Rana again in the next over to steal 19 runs, including 3 fours and a six. Kishan completed his fifty in his 24 balls with a strike rate of over 200.
Kumar Kushagra was firing equally on the other end as he took on Samant Jakhar for 24 runs in the 11th over. By then, Jharkhand had 137 runs on the board with the loss of one wicket.
Ishan Kishan, meanwhile, was nowhere close to being done at his fifty. He smashed a one-handed six off Kamboj to bring up his 45-ball hundred in style.
Kishan became only the second batter in SMAT history to score a century in the final.
Not only that, but the Jharkhand skipper is now the joint record holder for hitting the most number of centuries in the Syed Mushtaq Ali trophy. The feat was previously held by Abhishek Sharma, who hit 5 centuries.
After a carnage of 101 off 49 balls (including 10 sixes and 6 fours), Ishan Kishan was eventually dismissed by Sumit Kumar. A slower yorker on the off-stump, and a pumped-up Kishan went too early for a slog.
The ball beat him to crash the stumps, and that marked the end of a 177-run partnership between Kishan and Kushagra.
Jharkhand is approaching a big total
That being said, at the time of Ishan’s dismissal, Jharkhand had 180 runs on the board at 14.2 overs. However, after Ishan Kishan, another set batter, Kumar Kushagra, also walked back on 81 off 38 balls.
Still, Jharkhand will aim for a total of 230+. For Haryana, Sumit Kumar was taken to the cleaners as he conceded 41 runs in 4 overs. Samant Jakhar also leaked 32 runs in 2 overs.
