In a phenomenal achievement, Indian opener Abhishek Sharma hammered one of the fastest hundreds in T20 history, registering a 32-ball century in Punjab's ongoing Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT) encounter against Bengal. Abhishek's power-packed knock not only helped him join Rishabh Pant and Vaibhav Suryavanshi but also placed him alongside Rohit Sharma on the list of Indian batters with most hundreds in T20 history.

It's worth mentioning that Gujarat's Urvil Patel is still the fastest Indian to smash a T20 hundred, having achieved the feat in just 28 balls against Tripura. Abhishek Sharma also has a 28-ball ton under his belt; so his 32-ball century against Bengal in the southpaw's second-fastest T20 hundred.
Interestingly, Urvil recently smacked a 31-ball century, registering his second-fastest T20 ton in the ongoing SMAT season.
Most hundreds in T20s: Abhishek equals Rohit Sharma's record
Abhishek Sharma's 32-ball hundred in the Punjab vs Bengal clash is his eighth ton in the format. The left-handed batter has taken only 157 innings to slam eight T20 tons, equalling legendary batter Rohit Sharma on the list.
Meanwhile, talismanic Indian batter Virat Kohli is placed just above Abhishek, having registered nine T20 hundreds to his name. So, if the Punjab batter scores two more centuries in the ongoing SMAT season, he can surpass Kohli on the legendary list.
Regarding the match, Punjab have claimed the driving seat, riding on Abhishek's fireworks. His sensational opening stand with Prabhsimran Singh ensured a great start for Punjab before Pradipta Parmanik drew the first blood for the Bengal side. As of writing, Punjab were comfortably placed at 245 for two, with Abhishek and Ramandeep Singh batting on 144* and 14*, respectively.
