Team India retained advantage over West Indies by stumps on Day 3 of the series-deciding second Test, despite John Campbell and Shai Hope’s alluring half-centuries. Kuldeep Yadav excelled with the ball for the hosts by adding four wickets to his overnight tally.

Here, we take a look at the highlights of Day 3 of the second Test of the two-match series between India and West Indies, as it panned out at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on Sunday, October 12.

Kuldeep Yadav takes five to ensure India takes big lead

Resuming the innings at 140-4 on Day 3, both overnight batters Shai Hope and Tevin Imlach were dismissed by Kuldeep Yadav within the opening hour of the morning. The ace Indian spinner also deceived Justin Greaves, who was trapped in front after missing his reverse.

Mohammed Siraj cleaned up Jomel Warrican for just a single to pick up his first and only wicket of the innings, before Khary Pierre forged a valiant ninth-wicket stand with unbeaten Anderson Phillip (24* off 93) to take West Indies past the 200-run mark. Jasprit Bumrah eventually shattered Pierre’s stumps, before Kuleep Yadav mopped up the West Indies innings at 248 in 81.5 overs, claiming a sensational five-fer in the process (5-82).

Campbell, Shai Hope reduce West Indies deficit

Being asked to bat again after conceding a 270-run lead to India, West Indies opener John Campbell and number four Shai Hope brought their deficit down to 97 runs by the close of play on Day 3. Despite losing Tagenarine Chanderpaul and Alick Athanaze to Mohammed Siraj and Washington Sundar early in the innings, both Campbell (87* off 145) and Hope (66* off 103) struck alluring half-centuries to take West Indies to 173-2 in 49 overs.
