Bihar captain Sakibul Gani created history with a breathtaking batting performance against Arunachal Pradesh in a Vijay Hazare Trophy match played at the JSCA Ground in Ranchi on Wednesday. On a day when records kept falling, Gani stole the spotlight by smashing the fastest List A century by an Indian batter, reaching his hundred in just 32 balls.

Bihar won the toss and chose to bat first, and from the very beginning, the Arunachal Pradesh bowlers were put under massive pressure. Young opener Vaibhav Suryavanshi set the tone with an unbelievable knock of 190 runs off just 84 balls, attacking from ball one. His aggressive innings completely unsettled the opposition and laid a strong foundation for what was to come.

When Sakibul Gani walked in to bat at number five, the damage had already begun. But instead of slowing down, the Bihar skipper took things to another level. He played fearless cricket, hitting boundaries at will and sending the ball flying over the ropes repeatedly.

Notably, Gani reached his century in only 32 deliveries, breaking the previous Indian record of 35 balls, which was held by Punjab batter Anmolpreet Singh. Interestingly, Anmolpreet had also set his record against Arunachal Pradesh last season.

Gani built a powerful partnership of 94 runs with Ayush Loharuka, who himself played a brilliant knock of 116 runs off 56 balls. Even after Loharuka got out, Bihar’s momentum did not slow down. Gani stayed unbeaten till the end, finishing with a stunning 128 not out from just 40 balls, including 11 fours and 8 sixes.

Thanks to these explosive performances, Bihar posted a massive total of 574 for 6, which is now the highest team score ever in List A cricket. This record surpassed the earlier mark of 506 for 2, set by Tamil Nadu against Arunachal Pradesh in 2022.
